Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008In the second round of oral arguments for the Itagaki vs. Tecmo suit, Dead or Alive creator Tomonobu Itagaki submitted evidence that included an affidavit from Ninja Gaiden II producer Yoshifuru Okamoto, a contract from 2005 that seems to clearly state terms of the Dead or Alive 4 bonus and a voice recording of Tecmo president Yoshimi Yasuda. Itagaki is suing Tecmo over unpaid DoA4 wages.
Kotaku obtained copies of both the secret recording and the contract and translated both for this story.
Peter Dille Talks FFXIII Exclusivity, Seems Confused [Final Fantasy XIII]
Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008
Sony’s Peter Dille has never been a man short on words. So when asked by MTV what he thought of Microsoft’s Final Fantasy XIII coup, he offered words:
Nintendo Facing Controller Ban Over Patent Lawsuit [Nintendo]
Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008
Getting your hands on a Wavebird, Classic Controller, or Nintendo GameCube could shortly become very difficult as Nintendo faces a ban on all three devices, following a failed attempt to overturn the verdict in a $21-million dollar patent infringement suit brought on by Texas-based Anascape Ltd. U.S. District Judge Ron Clark plans on issuing the ban on these Nintendo products tomorrow, giving the company a chance to avoid the ban by posting bond or placing royalties in an Escrow account. According to Anascape lawyer Doug Cawley, the ban will be placed on hold while Nintendo appears on the Federal level.
David Perry Thinks E3 Is Broken, Stupid [E3]
Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008
And the E3 post-mortems continue! Latest to chime in with his $0.02 is swarthy heart-throb David Perry, who thinks E3 is stupid. And broken. And an embarrassment. And diluted. And…look, we’ll just let David explain:
If there aren’t dramatic changes to the format and staff, I’m never going again…The concept is broken, it’s expensive, messages are diluted, consumers are ignored (remembering that the future of this industry is direct connections with consumers – not retailers), the ticket policies are stupid, and if the entire industry worldwide doesn’t participate, it’s not real anyway.
Justify Your Resident Evil 5 [Clips]
Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008We wrangled up Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi to justify, well, Resident Evil 5. Since there was no official Capcom translator on hand, stay tuned for a special “guest translator” appearance by some random dude. He totally bungles up the whole damn thing. Shame on him!
Using The Force In Soul Calibur IV [E308]
Monday, July 21st, 2008
It seems almost pointless to write hands-on impressions of a game several of you have already gotten your hands on, by I assure you my hands are professional trained to receive impressions still harboring the faint traces of a spiral notebook I fell asleep on in 1989. Those are lasting impressions right there. Either way, I got a chance to test my Soul Calibur IV mettle against some of the Namco Bandai folk at E3 last week, and boy did I ever fail to kick complete ass. Word to the wise: don’t button mash against employees of the company creating the game. They are wise to such tricks. Could I alter my strategy and beat them at their own game?
Game Club Beyond Good & Evil: Assignment Two [Game Club]
Monday, July 21st, 2008 Sorry for the delay on our second assignment for the Beyond Good & Evil Game Club.
E3 was overwhelming and knocked my plans a bit off-kilter for the week. BUT, I’ve got your second assignment right here and we’re goign to go ahead and meet on Tuesday rather than Monday. Yes this will call of a little late night, last minute cramming, but isn’t that what clubs are all about anyway?
Bust Peter Moore in the Face. No, Really. [Updated] [Oh It's On]
Monday, July 21st, 2008
UPDATED: Planet Xbox 360 just pointed us to their screenshot, and it’s convincing. (Above).
Ever want to roundhouse punch EA Sports honcho/former Xbox chief Peter Moore in the jaw? Astoundingly, word is you can do just that in Face Breaker, coming out Sept. 5. ButtonMasher reports thusly:
While previewing Face Breaker at the EA booth it was mentioned that Peter Moore’s face had been scanned and entered into the game using the boxer editor. The face, which is creepily accurate, can be attached to any of the bodies and manipulated. Peter asserts that he suits a more chiseled look but the demonstration featured him as a blue monkey.
I Predict a Riot [Weekend Note]

Re: Slade, The Who and Fevers
Pretty sedate weekend on the heels of E3. Hope you and the others have caught your collective breath following E3. I’d like to wish everyone a happy Moon Landing day, which in my family is more familiar as Dad’s birthday. He turned 20 when Neil Armstrong toed lunar soil. That must have been a hell of a day.
Promise this won’t become tradition, but everyone had such a blast with Pikachu last week, so I’ve got another video that, because it’s OT, is after the jump. If laughter was an endurance contest, this would be your clock. I swear that thing looks like Fahey.
The Week in Games: FFIV on DS, Joint Strike [Week In Games]
Monday, July 21st, 2008
Except for 1942: Joint Strike on Thursday, this week looks like a mostly portable/PC cycle, to be followed next week by more console-oriented stuff, such as the remaining 3 copies of Soulcalibur IV that were actually held for release on their street date. Here’s your syllabus, class, will you be taking home any of this for closer study? Tell us in the comments.

Get Blood on Your Suit With the Spy [Tutorials]
Sunday, July 20th, 2008While we’re waiting for the real Spy updates and unlockables (and not fakes which momentarily fooled even Valve) OMFGNinja.com has gone and created an amazingly deep three-part advanced tutorial on how to play the Spy. It is mesmerizing, and showcases how any character in this game, with enough skill and planning, can become downright unstoppable. The leaping backstabs in part one, above, are jaw-dropping. The other two videos are at OMFGNinja, so follow the link and give them some credit. Youtube resolution sucks, but you get the idea of what the character class can do.

TF2 + Legos = Amazle [Sentry Guns]
Sunday, July 20th, 2008
Swear, I don’t have a sentry gun fetish. Although it would be cool to meet a girl who did (I don’t judge). Last week we churned up a video of a guy who developed a paintball sentry, and now reader Mohammed I. passes along a less functional, but no less impressive version: A Lego Sentry. Props to the builder, and especially for the game-screen render around it. Seriously, new desktop pic. It’s a work of art and should stand for all time. Until some bastard-ass Spy whips up a Lego sapper.

One Really, Really Long Assed PSP Game [E308]
Sunday, July 20th, 2008
In an age where 20 hour games are long, Valhalla Knights 2 is an anomaly. It takes between 60 to 80 hours to complete and up to 135 hours if you want to fully complete it. The game was penned by the scenario writer for Final Fantasy XII so it does have a very involving story. Good news is that you won’t spend most of that 135 hours grinding as there’s even sneaking abilities so you don’t have to constantly engage in battle. Also, no random encounters. Yay!

New Sonic Wii Game Revealed, Brings Much Needed Swordplay To Series [Sega]
Sunday, July 20th, 2008
The latest issue of Nintendo Power reveals, via cover story, that Sonic the Hedgehog is back! After a painfully long absence, the “Blue Blur” is returning to the Wii with Sonic & The Black Knight which the mag pitches as a “big new Wii-exclusive adventure” in which Sonic “swings cool steel.” Yep, the Sonic drought is over.
We have little info beyond the cover details for Sonic’s third Wii outing, but can imagine a Sonic themed adventure with the compelling gameplay of Red Steel or Dragon Quest Swords will fit the series like a glove. Hey, we’ll take it (begrudgingly) over gunplay any day.
The Five Most Embarrassing Moments of Nintendo’s Presser [Cringe Inducing]
Sunday, July 20th, 2008
OK, and after this, I promise no more bashing on Nintendo’s press conference. But I used to work in internal PR for a very large software company (that may or may not have produced products that rhyme with Shmorton Shminternet Shmecurity) and we’d go to RSA, host our own user conference, all that stuff. What I mean to say is that I’ve seen some eye-rolling moments in keynotes, when top executives try to get hip. But I’ve never seen anything close to this.
